Esports News: Complexity x Faze

  • Complexity parent company GameSquare to acquire FaZe. Wow. The deal hasn't gone through yet but the first grand final in CS2 is between Complexity and FaZe. If one of these teams has to go because of a potential conflict of interest...... That's a hard choice to make after this tournament. Similarly in Halo, both orgs field talented rosters, but may look to trim the Complexity team given the unlikely need to have two rosters. We will continue to monitor and report how this unfolds...

Call of Duty: SurGing into MW3

— Carolina Royal Ravens: Clayster + Nero and Fame

— Las Vegas Legion: Attach, Standy, Purj and formerly 'Mack' (head coach Fenix)

CSGO: Karrigan = GOAT

  • FaZe Clan win IEM Sydney in a banger of a match, 2-1, against Complexity. This team never seems to die, always grabbing trophies and knocking down opponents who are supposedly better than them. They got the first ever 13-0 on LAN against ENCE, they beat the #1, #2, #4, and #5 team on their path to victory. This team looks better than ever.
  • 'Karrigan' becomes the first player to win a LAN event in CS 1.6, CSGO, and CS2. Considering there are only a handful of players who have won events in 1.6 still playing today, he might be the only player to ever do this. Incredible.
  • 'rain' takes home the MVP award for Sydney! He's 29 years old with a kid and still knocking down cracked out zoomers like its nothing. His impact in all of their wins makes him the MVP despite not being the best overall rated player.
  • Complexity should be looking up. This looked good from them and not choking once is a good sign. I think this team has a really bright future and should place higher at other events coming up.
  • Liquid is blowing everybody's mind with their supposed new roster....
    • 'Cadian' - IGL/AWPer
    • 'Yekindar' - Entry
    • 'NAF' - Lurk
    • 'Twistzzz' - Rifler
    • 'skullz' - Anchor
    • 'Zews' - Coach
  • This roster is insanely overpowered, and if they manage to poach 'Twistzzz' from FaZe, that would probably see FaZe be the team shuttered by their merger with Complexity.
  • Also give Australia a major. Unlike Brazil, here is a crowd that cheers for everyone, doesn't threaten to hurt other fans, and genuinely loves CS.

Valorant: Challengers

  • Riot finally announced their Challengers format for 2024. There are two key changes:
    • Teams can partner with a Challengers team and have players that can be moved up or down between them. Similar to academy rosters, this gives NA teams a chance to have talent prove themselves to join the franchised team. Considering there are two splits in 2024, this will be awesome to see.
    • Challengers 2025 starts immediately after Ascension to prevent the current format where Challengers don't play for 6 months of the year. This will hopefully alleviate the lack of playtime for Challengers players.
  • Elmapuddy is the new coach of Fnatic. This is a crazy move from them considering his middling success as GenG head coach (NA and KR roster). I know Boaster would never work with someone he didn't believe in so I'll let them cook.
  • MIBR signs 'fRod' as their head coach and rebuilds around young Brazilian talent. A team that did nothing in 2023, they really want a big year for 2024.
